The Center for Diversity Education is working with the Martin Luther King Association, Stephens-Lee Alumni Association, UNC Asheville and other local organizations to observe 5 years of 50 year commemorations between 2010 – 2015 on the work of ASCORE – Asheville Student Committee on Racial Equality 1960-65. Part of that is continued research on the documents that demonstrate the impact they had on the community. To recieve copies of the primary source documents of the desegregation of Buncombe County Libraries on Sept. 15, 1961 and lesson plans please email Deborah Miles [email protected].
